Notre Dame d'Afrique is a impressive Catholic basilica perched majestically on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in Algiers. Built between 1858 and 1872 during the French colonial period, this Neo-Byzantine architectural masterpiece stands as one of Algeria's most recognizable landmarks. The basilica was designed by French architect Jean Eugène Fromageau and features a distinctive blend of European and North African architectural elements, including beautiful blue and white tiles, ornate arches, and intricate stonework. The basilica is renowned for its inclusive inscription 'Notre Dame d'Afrique priez pour nous et pour les musulmans' (Our Lady of Africa pray for us and for the Muslims), reflecting the religious diversity of the region.
